Sebastian Weber, born 1985 in Switzerland, is a cinematographer active internationally in fiction and documentary. He is based between Istanbul and Warsaw.
He began working in the film industry in 2008 as a production assistant, lighting technician and camera assistant. After his Bachelor in Film at the Zurich University of the Arts, he moved to Poland, where he obtained a Master's degree in Cinematography from the Lodz Film School.
His work has been screened at festivals including Camerimage, Berlinale, IDFA, Clermont-Ferrand, Palm Springs, Tallinn Black Nights and Max Ophüls Preis. His work has received Best Cinematography awards for the feature Mommy's Lambie (2023), the short Things Unheard Of (2024), and A Short Film About War (2026).
His documentary The Guest, which he directed and photographed, received several awards, including the Best Short Film Award and the Jury Award in the International Competition at Doclisboa Film Festival in 2018. Recent work includes the Swiss-Turkish co-production Serife Tavsan (dir. Tareq Daoud), which premiered in the Main Competition at the 2026 Zurich Film Festival and will have its international premiere at the 2026 Tokyo International Film Festival.
His long-standing collaboration with Swiss director Flo Linus Baumann, which began with the short films Korpus and Sousaphone, continues with the feature film Done For (WT), currently in development and planned for production in New York in 2027.
Alongside his cinematography work, Weber develops his own documentary and photographic projects. He is currently working on his long-term photographic project Fikirtepe (WT), exploring urban transformation and everyday life in Istanbul’s Fikirtepe district, for which he received a Cultural Grant from the Canton and City of Schaffhausen in 2026.
